Timing of the Tangenntial Excision in Scald Wound on Histologic Finding
Won Young-taik

Ham Kee-Sun
Abstract
Since Janzekovic (1968) and Jackson (1969) described the tangential excision and skin grafting in burn wound, it has been suggested that tangential excision and grafting conserves some dermal and epidermal tissue which otherwise be lost if the burn was excised down to fat or allowed to form a slough and grafted later on granulation tissue (Lawrence & Stone, 1973).
This experiment was performed to evaluate the prompt timing of the operation by investigating¢¥ the early morphologic progression of untreated thermal in-jury in rats.
The results were as follows:
1. Some improvement in the wound was noted at 24 hours after the scald especially in the dermal microvasculature.
2. There was a diffuse infiltration of polymorphonuclear leucocytes in the dermis at 96 hours after the scald.
The above results suggest that the timing of the tangential excision of the scald wound is between 24 to 96 hours after the scald.
